Flat Stella loves to help her mother clean around the house. She always helps her mother vacuum the floors, dust off the counter tops, and wash the dirty clothes. Flat Stella finds cleaning to be a wonderful and helpful hobby. She loves being able to spend quality time with her mother, and she also loves being able to help her mother keep the house clean. Flat Stella began thinking one afternoon about all the different types of cleaning that must take place every week in order to keep a house clean. As Flat Stella continued to think about the matter, she wondered what actions she could take to make the world a cleaner place. Flat Stella decided that she would make some serious changes that would help the world become a cleaner place to live. Flat Stella and her family resolved to always turn out the lights whenever they leave a room. Flat Stella and her family want to conserve electricity, so they only use the necessary amount of electricity throughout their home. Flat Stella also decided to grow a garden with her family in their backyard. A garden would provide Flat Stella and her family with fresh vegetables to eat. The growth of fresh vegetables helps to cut down on the amount of pesticides and harmful chemicals that enter the air. A garden also provides the world with healthy plants to maintain a healthy eco system. Flat Stella also decided to cut down on the amount of water she uses throughout the day. Whenever Flat Stella brushes her teeth, she no longer leaves the water running the entire time. She only uses water to rinse off her toothbrush when she has finished brushing.
One of the biggest changes Flat Stella and her family have developed is a desire to recycle. Recycling bottles, cans, paper, and plastic is an easy way to help lower the amount of pollution in the air. Flat Stella loves helping her family recycle items they have used. Flat Stella’s favorite part about recycling is the ability to sort the items in the bin. Flat Stella places the glass bottles in one bin, and she places the paper and plastic in a separate bin. Flat Stella feels a sense of pride over the fact that she is helping keep the environment clean. Flat Stella also encourages her friends to recycle their used products such as: glass bottles, aluminum cans, and paper. Flat Stella gets so excited when she sees the recycling truck turn into her neighborhood each week. She watches the men gather the items from the family recycling bin and put them inside the truck. Flat Stella understands that recycling is a wonderful way to help the environment remain a clean place. When Flat Stella first began recycling, she had to learn about the types of products that can be recycled. It is important to know the types of things that can and cannot be recycled. Flat Stella quickly learned that some items such as a pizza box, Styrofoam cup, and wet paper cannot be placed in the recycling bin. These items may contain greasy liquids that cannot be absorbed. After Flat Stella learned the important facts about recycling, she was able to recycle appropriate items and dispose of the unusable items.
Last week Flat Stella took a trip to her mother’s office. To Flat Stella’s surprise the office she visited had a new recycling bin in the lunch room. Flat Stella was so excited to know that other people care about protecting the environment by helping to prevent pollution. Flat Stella loves being able to help make the world a cleaner place through small simple actions. Flat Stella believes that the world can be a cleaner place with less pollution if everyone is willing to work together. Flat Stella challenges everyone she meets to make one change in their life that could help reduce pollution in the environment. Flat Stella believes it is important for everyone to participate in making the world a cleaner place. Flat Stella has even created a class project to conduct with her classmates at school. The entire class is participating in a challenge to keep a weekly record of the total number and the different types of things they recycle each week. Because the project is so fun for all of the students, the entire school is going to participate in a recycling challenge next month. Recycling can be a fun and helpful activity in which everyone can participate.
